I have not had time to review it fully but I love all that I have looked at so far. It met my need for what I was looking for. I loved the guides.

On the TL store site the Field guides appear to be of a durable plastic card type set or something of that sort of design but unfortunately when it arrived they were nothing more than a large paper poster folded a kazillion times. They Do have good information on them and that’s why I gave them two stars. For actually being able to use them “in the field” I would give them NO stars but that wasn’t an option. Extremely disappointed!

I bought these guides as required resources for the Peak 3 Training I recently attended (highly recommend the course to all registered leaders!). What I discovered is that these guides are treasure troves of information – compact, concise and easily accessible for teaching, reviewing and “just-in-time” refreshers on everything important to camping, outdoor skills and first aid. Old experienced leaders may not be impressed with these, but new leaders, boys and maybe those who are returning to an outdoor adventure program after a sabbatical will find value in them. I think every Troop should have at least one set of these guides.

I am also questioning the decision to pull all the information out of the books. I’m sure it’s nice that it’s all together, but why not in the book? Must we keep purchasing additional items at our own cost to just facilitate our program? I just bought the new Navigator/Adventurer trailmen handbooks, and will say i’m disappointed. I keep the 2013 version for reference for teaching since the 2019 books don’t have them.

On the positive side these are waterproof and made to carry in a backpack for reference. My initial thought was the first aid guide was a good reference to carry but I wasn’t convinced on the others. My son came to the same conclusion after thoroughly reviewing the material. The references to knots was nice to have, but the rest was lacking in content.

As one of the other reviews said, “the size of the pamphlets makes them almost unusable in the field”. They should be made into booklets, or some other format, which would be more packable and user friendly. The information provided is quite useful, it’s just the format that is disappointing.

Wow, these are terrible. These should be books. They come as large fold out sheets like a map. This is not a useful way to consume this information. Definitely not outdoor friendly. Imagine trying to look this over in a windstorm. (Super uncommon in the US, I understand. :/). For the information, it is fine, and well organized it seems. It is the form factor that is making me leave a 1 star review. Trail Life, you can do better!
